Dear Parents of the Mountain Shadows Recreation Program – 

Thank you for participating in our recreational program. Often parents and gymnasts’ express interest in pursuing the sport of gymnastics to a higher level and want to consider the competitive program. For these gymnasts, we are offering tryouts in May!!

Each season we have parents inquiring about the competitive aspect of the club, but they are concerned about the number of training hours and parent involvement required. Depending on a child’s level of ability there are many options as to where they could be training. Below offers a bit of information as to where your child could start and what the requirements would be. 

The program components are:

a. 4 to 8 hours of training per week 

b. THIS IS A YEAR-ROUND PROGRAM, 12 months of training, fees range from $253-$425/month from July 2026 to June 2027

c. Applicable AGF Insurance fees, ranging from $130-$445 for the year

d. Coaching by certified competitive coaches, including Respect in Sport and Police Record Check

e. Attendance required at 4-5 competitions per season (locations in Alberta and Southern BC)

f. Attendance of 80% at training is required for progress

g. Perks of being a member of MSAA (parent association, approx. fee $100/yr)

h. Purchase of designated club wear (training and competition suits, team wear)

i. Parent volunteer hours (approx. 30-40hrs), participation in 1 pit clean and in our host meet, MMI is MANDATORY!

The try outs will be held on Thursday May 21st @ 4-5pm for ages 5-7yrs (2019-2021) and from 5-6pm for ages 8 & up (2018 & older) to determine skill level.
